About this subspecialty

The Bipolar Disorder Center, a subspecialty within the Mulva Clinic for the Neurosciences, diagnoses, treats and manages bipolar disorder in patients (16 to 75 years of age), including both depressive and manic episodes, rapid cycling, mixed mood states and co-occurring anxiety or substance use concerns.

Our team provides coordinated outpatient care using a structured, evidence-based approach designed to stabilize mood, reduce symptom severity and minimize treatment-related side effects, including medication management, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), family therapy, interpersonal and social rhythm therapy (IPSRT), mindfulness and acceptance-based therapies (ACT and MBCT), psychoeducation, relapse prevention planning, mood journals and motivational interviewing. We are dedicated to helping you achieve mood stability, improve emotional regulation and daily functioning and enhance long-term stability.

Our treatment approach

At UT Medicine, we take an integrated, multidisciplinary approach to your care. This means you will benefit from the expertise of multiple specialists across a variety of disciplines caring for you in one place — avoiding the need to schedule multiple appointments with providers at locations all over the city.

UT Medicine is anchored by Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin, where we collaborate with colleagues to apply leading-edge research, diagnostic and treatment techniques to the diagnosis and treatment of your condition. Advanced imaging and lab testing are also available on-site if needed.
